Step 7: Relationship With God

LIFE = Fellowship - Acts 2:42
“And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”
  • Fellowship is friendship with other believers
  • God created us for fellowship with Him and each other and we often receive from God through each other
  • “The Apostles Teaching” - we listen to Biblical teaching together on Sundays and in our Small Groups
  • “The breaking of bread” - we have meals together; when you ate together in the ancient world you were saying “these are my kind of people” and identifying with them
  • “The prayers” - We pray together and for each other.  We grow our relationships stronger when we pray with each other

BIBLE = Bible Study - 2 Timothy 3:16-17
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.”
  • We receive from God through His Word in the Bible
  • The Bible teaches us how to know God and grow in our faith
  • The Bible reproves and corrects our thinking and actions that hurt us
  • The Bible trains us how to live wise, righteous lives where we are blessed and honor God
  • The Bible makes us competent and prepares us to serve God and build God’s Kingdom

PRAYER = Prayer - Matthew 6:9-13
“Pray then like this: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
  • Prayer is talking to God
  • “Our Father” - We don’t have to perform in prayer because God is our Father
  • “Your Kingdom come” - We pray to align ourselves with God’s heart and will
  • “Give us this day” - We pray to ask God for what we need and express our trust in Him
  • “Forgive us” - We pray to ask for God’s forgiveness and receive it
  • “Deliver us from evil” - We pray for protection from harm.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 - “pray without ceasing”
